"Ich erzähl dir von mir" ist ein Dokumentarfilmprojekt, das Einblick in das Leben und das subjektive Erleben von Menschen mit geistiger und mehrfacher Behinderung geben soll und von ihren spezifischen Fähigkeiten und Problemen erzählt. Im Mittelpunkt stehen sieben ProtagonistInnen. Der Film erzählt aus ihrer Perspektive von den persönlichen Wahrnehmungen, ihren spezifischen Problemen aber auch Fähigkeiten und vermittelt die große Emotionalität, mit der diese Menschen ihr Leben meistern.

Ich möchte zeigen, wie geistig behinderte Menschen ihren Lebens- und Arbeitsalltag bewerkstelligen, wie sie ihre Freizeit gestalten, ihre sozialen Kontakte pflegen und welche Probleme sie aufgrund ihrer Behinderung haben. (Petra Hinterberger)

"Inside me" gives us a glimpse into how people with mental and multiple disabilities perceive the world and provides us insight into each of their specific problems. We become acquainted with the abilities and emotions of the protagonists and we play witness to their triumphs and their tribulations.

"Inside me" is an epic documentary that follows the lives of seven persons with mental and multiple disabilities for one year. The film approaches its subjects with sincerity and sensitivity; it gives us a glimpse into how the protagonists perceive and experience the world around them and provides us insight into each of their specific problems. We become acquainted with the abilities and emotions with which the protagonists have learned to master day-today situations, and we play witness to their triumphs and their tribulations.

"People with mental disabilities do not have a voice in public," says director Petra Hinterberger. In "inside me," they and their relatives are given that voice.

Full of the joys of spring, some protagonists see their greatest wishes being fulfilled, like being invited backstage at a pop concert, or embarking on an adventurous trip. For others, the temptation to succeed professionally or in sports seems beckoning. How significant are friends, culture, a familiar environment, having a partner? The film attempts to tackle such questions. "Inside me" also depicts the autumn and winter-like aspects of life with a disability: The lack of mobility, the death of relatives, the loss of work, and the conflicts that arise from having a speech impediment.

"Inside me" reminds us of the values that exist outside of the "performance principle" and shows us how expressive a language gestures and facial expressions can be. Viewers are invited to dismantle the barriers that exist in many of our minds and to open themselves up to new experiences and direct encounters.
